Three Activities with Colour Drops

Jun 29, 2021

With winter approaching, now is the time to start prepping for some indoor fun! We all know Colour Drops are an awesome addition to the bath time routine but did you know they can be used for activities too?

Here we have three activity ideas for you to help combat the winter blues and brighten your child’s day!

Set the scene!

Gather any toy animals, dolls, trucks and cars and get creative. Blue for a swimming pool, lake or ocean – any colour will do! You can add rocks and sticks, or even sand. Here we have created a Sea Scene – A couple of sea creatures, some rocks, one large bowl and a blue colour drop.

Some other scene ideas:

  • A Barbie Swimming pool
  • Dinosaur land (think Lava for the Red Colour Drop!)
  • A Zoo
  • A Farm
  • A Duck pond

Sink or Float

Grab a bucket and objects from around home (that are safe to get wet!)

Will they sink or will they float? Make your guesses as you drop your objects into the coloured water.

This is a great activity for exploring early science, developing working theories and fostering curiosity.

 Objects that you could try:

  • Natural resources- rocks, twigs, leaves
  • Toy Cars
  • Feathers & Pompoms
  • Crayons
  • Plastic Cups

Colour Mix

This is a great one to do with things lying around home – What can you mix and pour with?

A spoon, some jars, a plastic cup, formula scoop, grab a bunch of containers and away you go. You can add different colours in different quantities, leaving some vessels empty to pour into – Just have fun exploring colours, tipping and pouring.

We know messy play is not everyone’s forte so make sure you have a towel handy and do be prepared for a few spills and clean ups! Hot tip: Pop the kids in an empty bath with these activities!

I hope this has been a fun little read and given you some inspiration for some water play with Colour Drops!
